Installing McAfee Anti-virus on Windows
  1. Ensure no other anti-virus software is installed.

For the best results there should be no anti-virus applications installed in addition to McAfee Anti-virus. Begin by checking for and removing any extraneous anti-virus software.

    • If you're not sure if you have another piece of anti-virus software installed check your taskbar for anti-virus icons.

      • a white `M` in a red square

The 'M' icon on the far left can indicate McAfee Anti-virus is already installed.

      • a yellow shield

The 'diagonal shield' icon on the far right shows Symantec Anti-virus is installed, this anti-virus system should be uninstalled before proceeding.

      • A red `V` on a silver shield with blue borders

This 'V Shield' icon shows a version of McAfee Anti-virus is installed, this anti-virus system will be uninstalled automatically.

    • If you know you have other anti-virus software installed, please use add/remove programs and uninstall it.

    • In a few exceptional cases as a last resort it will be necessary to use NoNav or McAfee Consumer Products Removal Tool to completely uninstall remaining anti-virus components.

  2. Download this client for home machines, laptops and Tier 3 machines at PSU

    1. Download PSU-McAfee-AntiVirus.exe (you will be asked for your MCECS login and password)

      select access protection level: standard

    8. Check the box by Update Now and click Next >

    9. McAfee Anti-virus will then update itself and the installer will exit.
