In front of a workstation, you will be presented with two prompts: one for your login or user name; and one for your password. The vertical line beside login: is called the cursor. If the cursor is next to Passwd:, press ‹Enter› once. It will echo "login incorrect" and the cursor will point to login.
Next, type in your login name and press ‹Enter›. Type in your password and press ‹Enter› (your password will not be displayed to the screen). If you have correctly entered the information, the next screen will have two windows: a window labeled “xlogout” in the upper right-hand corner of the screen; and the center window should resemble what is below. Last login: Day Month dd HH:MM:SS:mm YYYY from systemname.domain.pdx Sun Microsystems Inc. SunOS 5.9 Generic May 202

Having problems logging on? Make sure that the caps lock is off. Verify that your username is correct, and that your password is correct. If you’re still having problems, go to one of the help desks and ask the duty person for help. If necessary, the duty person can submit a request for a password change for you. Your new password will be active in 1 to 2 business days. To Log Out When you are finished with your Xsession, move your cursor to the box labeled “xlogout,” and press the left mouse button. If you are accessing the UNIX network some other way type exit to close your connection. Always logout when you finish a session. Unattended login sessions are a risk because someone else could access your account and remove files, copy your homework, or use the account to send obscene or inflammatory e-mail to others. |
