Forwarding mail in unix is done by a '.forward' file in your home directory. This is just a text file you make.
Forwarding to one address - Make a .forward file (the '.' is important) using your favorite text editor.
In this file, just place the full email address of the account you want your mail forwarded to. Make sure the address is correct or all your mail will bounce back to the senders. Example: somebody@hotmail.com - Place the .forward file in your home directory
Forwarding to multiple addresses - Make a .forward file (the '.' is important) using your favorite text editor.
For multiple addresses, just list them in the .forward file seperated by commas, like this: username@cs.pdx.edu, username@hotmail.com - Place the .forward file in your home directory
Forward mail, but keep a local copy on the system - Make a .forward file (the '.' is important) using your favorite text editor.
Just include your username with a '' at the front in the .forward file, like this: somebody@hotmail.com, username - Place the .forward file in your home directory
Turning forwarding off Just delete the '.forward' file or rename it to something else, such as '.forward.old'. You can also setup forwards and vacation messages in Webmail. |
