Description: Help CS students individually and in groups with
course work and programming problems. Handle occasional call-in and
walk-in user support questions. Must be able to work both on a team and
solo. Monitor network and systems. Will use some specialized utilities.
Will work with CS faculty to optimize tutoring services. Will work with
CS faculty and staff on user support issues. Necessary training will be
provided on user support issues.
Skills:
- Good working knowledge of
UNIX/Solaris
- Windows 2000/NT/XP
- C
- C++ and Java
- Excellent
written/verbal/people skills
- Know CS department computing resources
(unix/linux workstations, printers, applications,
etc.).
- Some special projects of variable duration.
- Other miscellaneous
tasks.
- Will need to have and/or establish good working relationships
with much of Maseeh College department faculty and staff.
Notes:
This usually fun job can occasionally be high-stress, and may not be
for everyone. If you are looking for a job to sit and do homework at,
this probably isn't it. Networking and systems administration training
will be available and encouraged(on your own time, of course). If you
make full use of the advantages of this position, you can learn some
excellent resume filler.
You must be an enrolled PSU student taking 8 credits or more to be eligible for this position
These
positions are open to upper division CS students and CS grad students.
Should at least be taking 300 level courses. We prefer those folks who
have completed at least a few of the 300 level courses. Applicants can
substitute comparable, demonstrable experience. Some preference given
to those folks with FWSP.
