Webmail Problems?
Occasionally a few people have problems with webmail and the secure connection.
Here are a few suggestions that have worked for others you might try to get it working better:
Tips and Tricks:
Checking folders for new mail: If you have any mail folders you can to go Mail -> Folders and click the check boxes next to the folders you want to check for new mail. After selecting some folders, from the "Choose Action:" box, select "Check Folder(s) for New Mail". After that, every time you are on the Mail -> Folders page it will show the number of messages and the number of new messages. They will also show on the Home/Login page.
New Mail Notification: Mail -> Options -> New Mail : Check "Display pop-up notification of new mail?" and a time interval from "Refresh Folder Views", then "Save Options". Your mail will then be checked that often (if you are logged into webmail) and a pop will tell you when there is new mail. If you only have new mail in one folder, the pop up will also allow you to go straight to that mail box.
Using a Trash Folder: Mail -> Options -> Deleting and Moving Messages -> check "When deleting messages, move them to your Trash folder instead of marking them as deleted?" -> choose a trash folder (or make a new one). Click "Save Options". This will put all messages you delete into this folder. A "Empty Trash" icon is then placed in the toolbar (next to "Inbox"). Just click on "Empty Trash" and the confirmation box and it will delete all your trashed messages. (The webmail default is to just mark them deleted, then you have to use the "Purge Deleted" link in each mail folder)
About Webmail
Webmail uses Horde and IMP and other modules for address books, calendar, etc. http://www.horde.org
IMP uses PHP scripts and IMAP to create a web interface to email.
IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) versus POP (Post Office Protocol)
IMAP permits interactive access to mail. Mail stays on the mail server but feels like mail is being handled on the local machine. You can delete, reply or compose emails from any computer since mail is centralized on the server.
POP connects to the mail server, downloads mail to the local machine, deletes mail from the server, and disconnects. Mail is then only accessible on that local machine. You may select to keep a copy of your mail on the mail server. This option can be found in your incoming mail server settings.
