Remote Mail Access Print

Mail settings should be configured as follows:

Incoming(POP3 or IMAP) Mail Server: mailhost.cecs.pdx.edu
POP3 Port: 110 (TLS) or 995 (SSL)
IMAP Port: 143 (TLS) or 993 (SSL)

Server Type: POP3 or IMAP
If you select IMAP, use:
IMAP Server Directory: mail

Outgoing(SMTP) Mail Server: mailhost.cecs.pdx.edu
SMTP Port: 587 (TLS) or 465 (SSL)

We require that everyone use "secure" versions of POP and IMAP. Your client may use TLS or SSL, but be sure to select the correct ports (listed above).

When sending mail remotely, you must use authentication. This option for the SMTP server normally says either "my server requires authentication" or "use username and password."  In addition, you may need to manually select the secure connection settings.  Some mail clients will not automatically select secure connection settings, even after you specify options that require the client to use authentication.  Either TLS or SSL will work.

POP3 users: We recommend that you select to leave a copy of your messages on the server. You would find that option in the incoming mail server settings. Otherwise, your mail program will download your mail and delete it off the server, and you will only be left with the copy that you have locally on your computer.

IMAP users (preferred): The advantage of IMAP is that it allows you to manage your mail without downloading it to your local computer. You may select that the server supports folders that contain subfolders and files if your email program has that option.
