Establishing a VPN connection using Mac OS X 10.3 or Mac OS X 10.4
NOTE: In order to create a VPN connection, you will need a previously configured Internet connection under Mac OS X 10.3 or Mac OS X 10.4. This tutorial assumes that you have an established connection.
If you are using wireless you must first connect to the vpn.cecs.pdx.edu wirless network.
Important things to know before you start:
YOU MUST ALREADY HAVE A CECS WINDOWS ACCOUNT TO USE THE VPN. Please see one of our front desks for an account if you're eligible.
If you have a new account, you must have logged into a CECS Window box and changed your password (you will be prompted upon first login). If you don't do this, you will not be able to access the VPN.
- Step 1: Open the "Internet Connect"
- Click your airport signal and select open internet connect
- Open Applications | Utilities | Internet Connect
- Step 2: Select File | New VPN connection
- Select PPP and click next
- Step 3: Fill out the following information
- Server Address: vpn.cecs.pdx.edu
- Account Name: cecs_username_here
- Password: cecs_password_here
- Check the "Show VPN status in menu bar" box
- Step 4: Select Internet Connect | Quit Internet Connect
- When asked to save, enter 'vpn.cecs.pdx.edu' and select save
- Step 5: Connect
- Select the new VPN icon next to your airport signal icon and select connect
Note: Once you are connected, you will remain connected for 4 hours, unless you are inactive for 30 minutes. To connect to your windows home directory refer to http://www.cat.pdx.edu/mac/connecting-to-windows-shares-from-your-mac.html
